BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — Just beginning his career at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center one year ago, Dr. Brad Daines says the best part of his job is getting to work with his dad, Dr. Joseph Daines.
"To have my dad there has been an awesome experience because he is sort of a calming presence," Brad said. "If I need a double check, it's right there with somebody I know I can trust and (who) I know did excellent work throughout his career. It's been a real benefit to me and to my patients as well."
The father/son duo are not the only two in the family conquering hip and knee replacements. Brad's two older brothers are Orthopedic doctors, as well. One practices in Arizona, the other in Caldwell.
"How does it feel seeing three of your four boys following in your footsteps?" KBOI 2News reporter Morgan Wagner asked.
"Well it's sort of an ego trip but I think it's great," Joseph said. "I just wanted my sons to do something that they enjoyed."
Dr. Brad Daines tells KBOI 2News his grandfather was also an Orthopedic doctor and that great grandfather was a doctor too.
"Like my brothers, I always thought I was going to be a doctor," Brad said. "I didn't ever feel any pressure but I noticed that my dad liked his job. What I tell people most commonly is that, you know, he came home and he was happy. He was fulfilled. His job was something that gave him meaning and purpose in life."
Will the Daines tradition carry on into the next generation?
Brad says he isn't sure, but that his son's name is Cutler which has a surgery feel to it so he is set up for success.
