Muth is currently in prison for 50 years since 2014 for the murder of his wife. In addition, he started a pattern of domestic violence against his wife, including repeated police visits. 

On August 12, 2011, Dart was found dead in the bathroom of her house in Georgetown. Muth called 911, informing them that he had seen her dead in the bathroom. However, the government's evidence showed he had been drinking.

A witness claimed that Muth became progressively louder and somewhat aggressive during the evening of August 11, 2011. On the morning of August 12, a witness heard a woman's faint cry followed by a man's laugh emanating from inside the house.

The prosecution submitted evidence at trial that Muth had a history of abusing his wife in the home. In addition, Muth had also expressed a wish to murder her in several statements throughout the years.
